When I go on my walks and hikes, I tend to return with a few “treasures” - lots of rocks and wooden sticks - eventually they all get used up for a creative art project of some sort ! I love using sticks - once dried ,to wrap pieces of yarn and other findings… I can show my hand spun yarn off a bit, and decorate a little part of my home at the same time! These are also great for the start of a wall hanging and other creative pieces for home decor.

Wrapped Driftwood or Stick Art

Materials Needed:

  • Handspun yarn (various colors and thicknesses)

  • Found driftwood or smooth sticks

  • threads and twine

  • Beads, charms, feathers , embellishments of your choice

  • Scissors

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Wood

  1. Choose a piece of driftwood or a stick (smooth, dry, and free of dirt).

  2. If needed, lightly sand rough edges.

Step 2: Wrap the Yarn

  1. Tie a knot at one end of the stick.

  2. Wrap handspun yarn around the wood, changing colors and textures as desired.

  3. Secure each yarn change with a simple knot or by tucking the end under previous wraps.

Step 3: Add Embellishments

  • Attach beads or charms by threading them onto the yarn before wrapping.

  • Tie small feathers or fabric strips for extra decoration.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

  1. Tie a loop of yarn at the top for easy hanging.

  2. Arrange multiple wrapped sticks as a wall installation., or use for other purposes such as photo display, mini art work, weavings, etc.

What will I do with this one?? These make great wall hangings, they can be used to hang special photos from with little clips, or decorate an empty space… Smaller versions can be used to fill a metal bucket or vase, instead of real flowers…
