We have a small herd of sheep and a llama, and once a year , they get a really GOOD “haircut” :) We’re left with some beautiful fleece - and processing it, can take SOME time. I love making it into yarn - that’s the best part, but there’s a way to go before I even get it close to my spinning wheel. As I process the fiber, there are LOTS of scrap pieces that can’t be spun, but we don’t let too much of that go to waste… Making these nesting balls has been something I’ve loved doing for years now, and our winged friends seem to appreciate them too! I love watching the birds take little scraps and build their nests. The nesting balls are easy to make and they’re a great way to use up scraps from your shearing and fleece processing. Or, if you simply want to make a nesting ball - ask a local farm if they sell shearing scraps, you’ll also need some scrap yarn or ribbon too (remember: things birds will use, so all cotton, organic materials are a must).
Our farm sells small bags of scrap fiber too - if you can’t find any locally, let us know! You can email TVL297@gmail.com
